Brian Kim MA, LPCC
Brian is a Licensed Professional Counselor (Candidate) and earned his Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Naropa University with a specialization in Contemplative Psychotherapy. His approach is unique in that it integrates a blend of both Eastern and Western psychology. He has been actively working with adolescents and adults professionally in various settings including the Juvenile Assessment Center in Boulder as a Support Group Leader, out in the community, parks, hiking trails, and client’s homes as a professional mentor, in his private practice as a psychotherapist, and as a DBT group facilitator at a mental health clinic.
In his clinical approach, Brian’s work with clients is collaborative and relational in nature. Together, we identify growth-inhibiting thoughts, habits, and behaviors that no longer serve you, understand the root of these patterns, and learn and apply new tools and behaviors that facilitate growth and life-affirming changes. By learning to form a healthy relationship with yourself first, you are planting seeds to create positive and sustainable relationships with your loved ones, the greater community, and the environment. Informed by evidence-based research, Brian utilizes mindfulness-based interventions that draw from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Existential Psychotherapy, Attachment Theory, and Contemplative Psychotherapy. He also finds great value in walk ‘n talk therapy, hiking, meditation, yoga, and movement therapy that all serve as supplemental resources and inspire his clinical work.
Each stage of life presents us with its own distinct set of challenges and obstacles. I believe that when we learn how to properly direct our energies to meet and then overcome these challenges in our own unique way, we develop and mature towards greater well-being, growth, wholeness, and the freedom to be who we are.
Sometimes it can feel too overwhelming, confusing, or painful to undertake such trials alone. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be that way. Seeking support is an act of courage and the first step towards creating the life you deserve.
By learning to form a healthy relationship with yourself first, you are planting seeds to create positive and sustainable relationships with your loved ones, the greater community, and the world at large. I consider it an honor and privilege to walk side by side with you as you discover who you are and who you are growing to become.
